PPE Personal Protective Equipment
π Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements – AJSBA Events
To ensure the safety of all participants, the following PPE is mandatory for every entrant:
β Approved Race Helmet

Must display an AUS/NZ safety sticker or equivalent safety label

Must be in good condition with functioning straps and locking mechanisms

Helmets must be at least 50% high-visibility colour (e.g., yellow, orange, green, red, or fluoro shades)

Matte or jet-black helmets will be marked with high-vis tape before entering the water

Downhill mountain bike helmets are not permitted
β Spinal/Back Protector

Must be undamaged and fully functional

No broken straps or compromised hard shell areas
β Personal Flotation Device (PFD)

Must be AUS-approved or IJSBA race-approved (e.g., Jett Tribe PFDs)
β Enclosed Footwear

Shoes or water booties are required
-
Barefoot riding is strictly prohibited
π οΈ Scrutineering Reminder All PPE must be presented during PWC scrutineering and verified using the AJSBA Scrutineering Form. Failure to comply will result in your PWC not receiving a safety inspection sticker, and you will be ineligible to participate in any training or race events.
π« No Borrowed Gear Please bring your own PPE. Borrowing gear is strongly discouraged and not supported at AJSBA events.
π’ Special Note for Victorian Riders While Victorian waterways typically require a waterproof torch, AJSBA has secured exemptions for all participating PWCs during the event weekend. You do not need to carry a torch on your PWC, but we recommend keeping one in your vehicle just in case.

Before hitting the water, make sure your Personal Watercraft (PWC) meets the following race-ready requirements:

Must be securely installed to allow for quick and safe retrieval

Clearly displayed and easy to read from a distance

Your craft must be registered with your state government and documentation must be up to date
